Hi — I'm Ernesto, founder of Earnest Smart Home. (And yes — the name is personal. Earnest comes from Ernesto.) I've spent years working hands-on in tech, supporting customers at major tech companies and as an IT technician in DMV schools. I've worked with all kinds of people — seniors getting their first smart device, families protecting their homes, and everything in between.

We currently serve the entire DMV area — Washington DC, Maryland (including Prince George's County, Montgomery County, and surrounding areas), and Northern Virginia. Not sure if we reach you? Just ask — we'll do our best to accommodate.
No — you can book a free estimate first and we'll tell you exactly what you need. If you want guidance on what to buy, check our Equipment Shop above or just ask during your visit. We can also help you order the right gear before the install date.
Most single-device installs (doorbell, thermostat, lock) take 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Wi-Fi optimization and multi-device setups may take 2–3 hours. We'll give you a realistic time estimate before we start so you can plan your day.
Reach out and we'll make it right. For Care Plan members, you get priority support and remote troubleshooting sessions. For one-time service customers, we charge a small fee for return visits — but we stand behind our work and will always try to resolve issues quickly.

Earnest Smart Home is licensed in the state of Maryland for complete home security installations. We operate in full compliance with state requirements and are happy to provide documentation upon request prior to any work being performed.
All in-person visits include a $100 visit fee in addition to the service price — this covers travel and time to your home. Payment is collected securely online prior to your visit. We accept credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We do not accept cash or peer-to-peer payment apps. Free estimates are always available by phone or email at no charge. For Care Plans, billing is processed monthly or annually through a secure card on file.
Bundles are one-time install packages — you pay once and we come do the work. Care Plans are ongoing monthly subscriptions that give you continued support, discounts on future services, and peace of mind knowing you always have someone to call when something isn't working.
